Potable water remains a pipe dream for Sohana

The residents of Sohana village are still waiting for clean and treated drinking water, a basic necessity they have been demanding for a long time.

Residents said a project worth Rs 55 lakh was approved in March 2024 to connect Sohana to the canal water supply through the Sector 77 booster pump but no progress has been made so far.

No pipelines have been laid, and the village has not yet been connected to the booster system.

Mohali Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has submitted a written request to the Executive Engineer of Division Number 3 of the Public Health Department, urging the immediate connection of Sohana village to the Sector 77 booster pump.

“Due to the delay in laying the pipeline, villagers are still dependent on tubewells, which not only cause water scarcity in the summer but also pose challenges in terms of groundwater conservation and environmental sustainability,” he said.

In his letter to the Public Health Department, Bedi also stressed, “Residents of Sohana village also deserve clean, safe, and treated drinking water. The work should be started without any further delay.”

District SC Cell Vice-Chairman Gurinder Singh said the implementation of the said project would reduce the dependence on tubewells, help conserve underground water resources, improve water pressure, and ensure water availability in upper floors of the buildings.
