Amid sweltering heat, several areas of the city faced power outages in the past 24 hours. A resident of Sector 30-B said there was no supply in their area from 3 am to 10 am. Residents of southern sectors, including Sector 47-D, 38 and 45-C, faced power disruptions.

Officials of Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) stated that despite the historic surge, the peak load was efficiently managed without any major disruption or supply constraint, despite mounting pressure on ageing infrastructure.

The relentless heatwave and increased use of air-conditioning and cooling appliances have pushed the power infrastructure to its limits, they added.

On June 11, the peak demand reached a staggering 452 MW.

Officials said that the CPDL has intensified efforts to ensure there is no disruptions in the network, by further strengthening its teams to monitor and manage loads across the city.

The highest ever peak demand of 465 MW was recorded around 3.30 pm in the city.
