Prarthana stuns top seed in pre-quarters

Top seed S Varadhamani Rajan was stunned by 13th seed Prarthana Khedkar of Maharashtra in the girls’ U-13 pre-quarterfinals of the CLTA-AITA National Series Tournament at the Sector 10 CLTA Complex. Khedkar lost the opening set 2-6, but returned with a 6-1 6-1 win to march into the quarterfinals.

Ninth seed E Sriyala of Andhra Pradesh defeated sixth seed V Rajput 6-3 6-0, while Haryana’s T Bhatnagar posted a 6-3 6-0 win over Navya Singla. K Kadian defeated Ekam Shergill 6-0 6-2, Purvi Patwa posted a 6-3 6-1 win over R Arora and M Gupta defeated Nimisha Singh 6-0 6-0 in other pre-quarterfinals.

Sarena Gahlot also marched into the next round by defeating S Sharma 6-0 6-0 and P Katial ousted second seed R Dullet 7-5 6-3.

In the boys’ U-16 pre-quarterfinals, top seed Ribhav Saroha continued his winning streak by defeating Jeevith S 6-0 6-0. S Bhadury stunned Nidesh Balaji 6-2 6-2, and Mahijith Kaura ousted Pranay Sharma 7-5 6-4. G Manchanda posted a 6-4 6-2 win over K Singh and Harsh Marwaha registered a 6-2 6-0 win over Gaurish Madaan. Sanidhya Dhar Dwivedi defeated Ashish Kumar 6-0 6-2, Puneeth M outplayed P Kalsi 6-2 6-0 and D Malik blanked Anay Pandey 6-3 6-1.

In the boys’ U-16 doubles second round, the pair of Divey Malik and Ribhav Saroha defeated Ishaayu Desai and Jeevith S 6-1 6-3, while S Bhadury and Aryaveer Sharma posted a 6-4 6-4 win over Gaurish Madaan and Harsh Marwaha. Nidesh Balaji and Govardan Suresh posted a comeback 4-6 7-5 10-4 win over N Bhardwaj and G Manchanda and in the girls’ doubles, Ruhin Kaushal and Shubhi Sharma defeated D Kanjithanda and Anika Pandey 6-2 2-6 10-7. The team of Reet Arora and Priyanshi Katial defeated Purvi Patwa and Gauri Shetty 6-1 6-1 and P Khedkar paired with V Rajput posted a 6-2 6-0 win over Tanya Bhatnagar and Nimisha Singh.
