Mohali: The police arrested a dera priest, Abhishek (25), and his woman accomplice on the charge of attempting rape on a devotee at Parchh village, New Chandigarh, on Sunday. The priest is a resident of a village in Barwala. Both suspects were produced in a local court that sent them to police custody. A case under Sections 354, 376 and others of the IPC has been registered at the Mullanpur police station. TNS

Plaint filed over monkeypox poster

Mohali: Health officials have filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime police station, Phase 4, against miscreants for distorting an awareness poster in Punjabi on monkeypox disease. The officials have issued an advisory not to circulate any fake version of the poster. The original version issued by the Health & Family Welfare Department, Punjab, in Punjabi and English languages is available at department’s social media handles and website. Civil Surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur confirmed the filing of the complaint. TNS

Ex-SHO gets threat call

Mohali: A former Station House Officer of Phase 8, Rajneesh Choudhary, reportedly received a threat call from a foreign phone number on Sunday night. The caller allegedly threatened him with life for arresting Vikram Singh Thakur in the past. Sources said no complaint had been filed by Choudhary. Mohali SSP Vivek S Soni said, “We are investigating the matter.” TNS

Couple, son attacked

Chandigarh: Around 12 persons reportedly attacked a couple and their son at Dadu Majra Colony here. In her complaint, a woman, a resident of the colony, reported that they had organised a function to celebrate Teej on July 30. The accused identified as Nikhil, Multani, Kalu, Gola, Minish, Kartik, Golu and others attacked her. They also attacked her husband and their son. The police have registered a case under Sections 147, 148, 149, 323, 354, 379 and 379-B of the IPC at the Maloya police station. TNS

Speed skating trials on Aug 4

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Roller Skating Association will organise trials to select the local speed skating teams for the upcoming National Games to be held in Gujarat. The trials will be held at Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27, on August 4 at 4 pm. Only international participants and medals winners of the 59th Nationals/1st India Skate Roller Games/2nd Ranking Championships and National participants, born in 2011, will be eligible for the trials.
