With the February 28 deadline for the registration of property without no-objection certificate (NOC) approaching fast, a heavy rush of applicants is being witnessed at the offices of sub-registrars, joint sub-registrars and sub tehsils in Dera Bassi, Zirakpur, Mohali and Kharar.

Hundreds of applicants, buyers, sellers and witnesses are visting the offices daily. However, appointment slots for registries are not easy to come by, causing difficulty to people who want to get their properties registered.

Mohali Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has urged the Punjab government to extend the deadline for property registration without NOC till March 31. Bedi said citizens were trying to book online appointments, but all slots were filled up four days before the deadline.

“Long queues can be seen at tehsil offices. Despite high demand, the government has not arranged additional slots,” he said. Bedi pointed out that many registries remain incomplete because tehsildars and officials are either occupied in meetings or are away from the office. Extending the deadline would be beneficial for both the government and the public. The government would receive more revenue and people would be able to register their properties without any hassle. If the deadline is not extended, least the government should do is deploying additional staff and officers at tehsil offices and increasing the number of appointment slots.

As the exemption from NOC for property registration is available till February 28, the beneficiaries must be able to get their registries done before or by the end of the day.

According to the government notification, any person who up to July 31, 2024, for an area up to 500 square yards situated in an unauthorised colony, has entered into a power of attorney or agreement to sell or have any registered document with respect to the title of land, shall be entitled to get registration of such plot executed.
