The Student Aid Fund Committee of Panjab University (PU) has approved Rs 18-lakh fund for 104 students.

However, the budget provision is Rs 36 lakh for Student Aid Fund for the current academic session. The scholarship is apart from fee concessions applicable to the needy students and students whose family income is up to Rs 4 lakh can apply. A total of 80 students from teaching departments and 46 from USOL applied for the Student Aid Fund this year. As 22 students were not eligible, it summed up to 69 students in teaching departments and 35 from USOL. The PU takes Rs 50 per annum from each student for maintaining the fund. — TNS

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
