Chandigarh, May 5

The Panjab University (PU) authorities today decided to do away with services of employees included as guest faculty, temporary, contractual teachers and daily-wagers, contractual non-teaching staff.

According to a spokesperson, these are the employees whose term is expiring for the current session on May 8. The employees will be re-engaged as per the requirement as and when the normal functioning of the university resumes.

An online meeting was held under the chairmanship of PU VC Prof Raj Kumar and others. “The decision about opening of the next session as well as pending academic work (if any) of the current session cannot be taken at this point of time. The services of those employees, whose term is expiring on May 8, shall be re-engaged,” said a spokesperson.

Guidelines for PhD students

Meanwhile, it was decided that viva-voce of PhD students will be held in the respective departments and if the facility is not available, then it will be conducted at the Computer Centre through Skype or any other online method. The chairperson of the department concerned, supervisor and candidates will be physically present at the time of viva.
