Chandigarh, June 18

More than hundred research scholars staged a protest outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office at Panjab University here today to press for their demands.

The protesting scholars’ sought extension in submission of thesis, besides allowing hostels to all the scholars. They also pressed for considering lockdown period as zero for the hostel stay.

Student representatives of various parties urged the PU administration to fulfil the demands of scholars at the earliest and stop harassing them by calling their parents and respective guides.

After protesting at the VC office for an hour, students decided to march towards the VC house. However, they were stopped at the gate and rounded up by the Chandigarh Police.

As per a PU statement, “The university authorities advised the protesting students outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office to have a dialogue with the authorities but some protestors entered into a scuffle with the security and police personnel and tried to break the barriers. In this, one police personal was also injured.”
