Panjab University (PU) delivered its strongest performance yet at the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2025, winning the yoga (men) and judo (women) overall championships and securing top-three finishes in eight sports. PU ended the multi-sport event with 66 medals -- 14 gold, 33 silver and 19 bronze -- placing sixth among 141 participating universities.

PU Sports Director Rakesh Malik said the university not only improved dramatically from last year’s tally of 40 medals but also recorded the highest number of silver medals among all institutions this year.

PU’s medal haul was driven by strong performances across disciplines: shooters claimed six gold, nine silver and three bronze; track and field athletes won four gold, five silver and two bronze; canoeing and kayaking delivered 12 silver and four bronze; fencers picked up one silver and four bronze; judokas secured two gold and one silver; while boxers, cyclists, swimmers and archers added several individual medals. PU teams also finished runners-up in shooting, canoeing and kayaking and women’s athletics, and clinched third overall positions in women’s basketball, women’s table tennis, men’s badminton and men’s kabaddi.

Congratulating the medal winners, coaches and sports officials, PU Vice Chancellor Renu Vig praised their discipline, resilience and commitment.
