Chandigarh, December 10

The PU today withdrew the circular demanding affidavits from Kashmiri students, declaring that they have not been involved in any unlawful activity during the clampdown in the valley.

The official notification reads: “Keeping in view the welfare of Kashmiri students, Panjab University has withdrawn the circular regarding their attendance, thereby allowing them to be able to appear in exams.”

The circular was issued after a communication was received from the Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Punjab, that Kashmiri students were harassed for delay in payment of fees or attendance shortage resulting from the clampdown in the valley.

Therefore, all chairpersons/directors/coordinators were advised to allow Kashmiri students to appear in the examination and to allow them to deposit fee so that they should not lose an academic year on this account. A self-affidavit was also sought from Kashmiri students stating that they have not been involved in any unlawful activity during their absence from the university.
