Chandigarh, December 19

Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) Vice-President Rahul Kumar, who is backed by the NSUI, protested at the PU main gate number 2 late on Thursday evening.

Rahul, along with NSUI supporters, sat at the gate and agitated over being asked “for verification for passing through the PU Vice-Chancellor’s residence”. He alleged that the security guard asked him about his political leaning.

The traffic was interrupted because of the protest for about 20 minutes. In an hour’s time, Chief Security Officer Prof Ashwani Kaul arrived at the spot.

“I was passing through the VC’s residence and saw a bike parked there. It belonged to an ABVP official. A security guard came out and asked me who I was and which political party I belonged to. Then, he sent for my car to be verified. So, does that mean that only the ABVP people are allowed at the VC’s residence?” Asked Kumar.

On hearing Kumar’s grouse, Prof Kaul, asked him for a detailed report on the issue. “I will look into the matter in the morning after getting a detailed report on the matter,” he said.
