In a surprising move, Prof Dheeraj Sanghi, Director, Punjab Engineering College (PEC), resigned from his post citing personal reasons.

He will be serving till March 31, 2021. Sanghi (54) joined PEC from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, in January 2019, and his term was to end in January 2024.

“I was not enjoying. The decision was taken after two weeks of discussions with the UT Administrator and the Adviser. My resignation has been accepted,” said Sanghi.

Asked about the reason behind the step, Sanghi added, “There are no specific reasons. Let’s not get into this discussion regarding reasons. I will be going back to Kanpur.”

He submitted his resignation to Sarpreet Singh Gill, Secretary, Technical Education, UT Administration.

Rumours hinted that Sanghi was not happy with the authority’s approach towards uplifting PEC’s status. Reports also suggested that Sanghi and Chairman, Board of Governors (BoG), PEC, were locked in a dispute earlier in July after which he had threatened to resign. — TNS
