Punjab Roadways bus driver killed in road rage incident at Kurali bus stand

The victim, Jagjeet Singh from Amritsar district, was hit on the chest with a piece of pipe while trying to evade a head injury. He collapsed moments later.
Passersby gathered and intervened, chiding the pickup driver, asking him what would have happened if the pipe had hit the victim’s head and he had died. Moments later, the bus driver collapsed on his knees and fainted. He was rushed to a Kurali hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body was later shifted to Phase-6 Civil Hospital in the evening.
The suspect, Sukhdeep Singh, 35, from Padiala village in Kurali, claimed that there were arguments between the two drivers on the way, and Jagjeet had abused him earlier. When the bus halted near the bus stop, the pickup driver came from behind and confronted him, leading to a fight.
The police took possession of the body and kept it in the mortuary for the postmortem examination. Punjab Roadways union members reached the police station and demanded strict action against the pickup driver. A murder case has been registered at the Kurali police station, and the police are investigating the matter.
According to the police, the Jalandhar depot bus was going from Chandigarh to Jalandhar around 4 pm. The police impounded the pickup truck and detained the driver. No passenger was injured in the incident.
