The Punjab Government has sent a panel of three IAS officers to the UT Administration for the post of Finance Secretary.
Punjab cadre IAS officers Basant Garg, Diprava Lakra and Daljit Singh Mangat are in the race for the post. Garg is on deputation with the Central Government and his tenure is likely to end on September 10.
The post fell vacant after the Administration relieved the then UT Finance Secretary Namdeorao Zade, a Punjab cadre IAS officer, on June 19. After his tenure ended in May, he was given a one-month extension in view of the Lok Sabha elections, as he was the Chief Electoral Officer of Chandigarh.
Earlier, the Punjab Government had sent a panel of three IAS officers, including Amit Dhaka (batch 2006), Amit Kumar (2008) and Mohammed Tayyab (2007) for the post of Finance Secretary. However, the panel was rejected by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Administration is yet to receive a panel from the Punjab Government for the post of Commissioner, Municipal Corporation. The three-year deputation period of former Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra ended on August 22.
