Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian today emphasised on the need to focus on improving the quality of grain, stating that the state had already achieved the maximum yield potential in crop production.

He was addressing a seminar on agriculture organised by the Brahma Kumaris at Sukh Shanti Bhawan, Phase 7, Mohali. Highlighting Punjab’s vital contribution to the national food basket, the minister said, “Punjab has played a leading role in ensuring food security for the country. The state contributes nearly 24 per cent of the total rice and 49 per cent of the total wheat produced in India.”

Commending the hard work and commitment of Punjab’s farmers and agricultural scientists, Khudian said their consistent efforts made the nation self-reliant in food production.

Expressing concern for farmers impacted by the recent floods, the minister hoped that the entire nation would stand firmly with Punjab’s flood-affected farmers and support them in their recovery efforts.

Jaswant Singh, Director (Agriculture), Sonam Chaudhary, ADC (Rural Development), Dr Gurmail Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, speaker from Brahma Kumaris, Mount Abu, Brahma Kumari Sarla Didi and Brahma Kumari Prem Lata, Director, Rajyoga Kendra, Mohali circle, were also present at the event.

A large number of progressive farmers, sarpanches and panches attended the seminar, which focused on sustainable farming practices, environmental balance, and the importance of spiritual well-being in agriculture.
