Chandigarh, February 10

The Natyam Theatre Group, Bathinda, staged a Punjabi play, ‘Pooran’, in its new avatar on Day 13 of the ongoing TFT Winter National Theatre Festival at the Navrang Theatre here today.

Written by acclaimed playwright Dr Atamjeet, recipient of the rare national honour of the Sangeet Natak Akademi and the Sahitya Akademi and directed by Kirti Kirpal, the play has been structured in modern milieu.

The play ‘Pooran’unearths the truth about the modern rich old men marrying girls much younger to them, emulating the legend of historical old King Salwan marrying poor but a beautiful and vivacious young girl Loona.

The playwright Atamjit did justice to the story of the play set up in modern context. Several artistes of the Punjabi play, Jagdeep Sandhu, Happy Prince, plying the role of ‘Pooran’, Ramandeep, Harjot Natraj, Jassi Jaspreet essayed their roles well.

Abhinav Gupt National Theatre Festival concludes

The three-day-long Abhinav Gupt National Theatre Festival organised by North Zone Cultural Centre, (NZCC), Patiala, and Sanskar Bharti concluded with a satirical comedy play ‘Diploma in corruption’ staged by Rang Mandap group Ghaziabad at Tagore theatre here today.

The plays portrays how an error in advertisement ‘diploma in shishtachar’ wrongly printed as ‘Diploma in Bhrashtachar’ leads to misunderstanding which invited trouble for concerned retired headmaster but entertainment to audience.
