Members of the Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) executive panel met Panjab University Vice Chancellor (VC) Renu Vig today to discuss various issues concerning the welfare of teachers.

Several key officials of the university, including Secretary to the VC, Controller of Examination, FDO, XEN, construction office, and DR, establishment branch, were also present at the meeting.

PUTA president Prof Amarjit Singh Naura thanked the VC for the support given by her to resolve several long-pending demands of teachers. He apprised the VC about several issues that were discussed during the PUTA executive meeting held on September 17. The VC shared that as everyone was aware that the Central Government had committed enhancement of annual grant and one-time grant of Rs 175 crore subsequent to the implementation of the revised UGC pay scales, she had been consistently following up the case for release of funds at the earliest.

She also apprised PUTA members that the process of promotion of dental faculty under the DACP was being streamlined and the screening committee meeting was expected to be scheduled soon. She also assured her support to resolve the case(s) of promotion of teachers under the CAS stuck due to audit observations in an appropriate manner. The VC assured her full support for enhancement of the retirement age of teachers to 65 years .
