A splendid bowling performance by Jagjit Singh Sandhu (7/57) in the second innings steered Chandigarh boys to register an emphatic nine-wicket win over Assam in the ongoing Ranji Trophy at Barsapada.

Jagjit Sandhu took a total of nine wickets in the match. After restricting the hosts to 266, the visitors scored 374 to secure 108-run lead. Later, Assam collapsed at 185 and posed an easy target of 78 runs for Chandigarh.

Earlier resuming its overnight score of 144/7, Assam added only 41 runs. Sandhu took the remaining three wickets of the innings. Unbeaten SC Ghadigaonkar (38) was the top scorer.

Nishunk Birla took two wickets, while Raj Angad Bawa bagged one. City boys achieved the target for the loss of one wicket. Skipper Manan Vohra scored 51, while Arsalan Khan added 27 runs.

Chandigarh’s next match is scheduled against host Jharkhand from October 26 at Keenan Stadium, Jamshedpur.
