Senior officials were informed about the incident. Later, a Duty Magistrate inspected the place and recorded the statements of the police officials on duty.

The body was shifted to the mortuary of the Phase-6 civil hospital and handed over to the kin after post-mortem on Wednesday. Police officials remained tightlipped over the incident but said a report had been sent to senior officials in this regard.

Man acquitted in rape case

Meanwhile, a Mohali court acquitted a rape accused after the police failed to produce credible evidence in the 2019 case.

The defence counsel argued that the complainant and the accused were known to each other. The complainant was already married in Ludhiana but when his husband came to know of their relationship, the duo conspired against accused Manish. According to the complaint filed at the Phase 11 police station on May 9, 2019, Manish had allegedly raped the complainant during an office party at a hotel in Chandigarh on January 5, 2019.
