Mohali, November 16
The local Municipal Corporation has made registration of pet dogs mandatory and decided to charge Rs5,000 from the owner if the animal is impounded as a stray.
Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu said daily feed charges to be recovered from pet dog owners would be Rs500. He said if the dog was repeatedly strayed, the penalty would be doubled and the owners would have to pay Rs10,000 to get their dogs released. Similarly, failure to control dangerous pet dogs could result in a fine of Rs2,000 over and above the fine for pet found roaming around, he added.
Jeeti Sidhu said the MC started registration of pet dogs today. He said the one-time registration fee for pet dogs was Rs100. The annual fee too was Rs100. He said the first token was obtained by councillor Kamalpreet Singh Bunny
