Residents are likely to get some relief from the intense heat as the UT Met Centre has forecast light rain in the next 24 hours in the city.

“Isolated light rain or thundershowers are likely in the city during the next 24 hours and light to moderate rain or thundershower activity is likely to take place on July 10,” the Met office said.

The spell is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds with a speed of 30-40 km per hour, said the Met office, adding that rainfall was likely to increase from July 11.

Heat wave condition is likely to continue for another 24-36 hours and will abate afterwards. The maximum temperature today was 40.5°C, five degrees above normal, and the minimum was 30.6°C, six degrees above normal. —TNS
