Repair of Chappar Chiri, Kharar-Banur roads commences

The work to repair and upgrade two important roads — Chappar Chiri Kalan to Chappar Chiri Khurd Road and Kharar Banur Road to Tangori-Kurara-Barri Road — began today. In the first phase of repairs, strengthening of 14 major roads requiring urgent attention has been approved at a cost of Rs 10 crore. Of these, work on the two key roads began today.

The first project pertains to the Kharar-Banur road to Tangori-Kurara-Bari road, covering a total length of 5.57 km with a width of 18 feet. Notably, the last repair on the stretch was carried out in October 2016.

Now, the road is being constructed at a cost of Rs 2.06 crore, with an additional provision of Rs 27 lakh for its five-year maintenance. Of this, 1 km will be constructed with 80mm paver blocks, while the remaining stretch will be rebuilt in bituminous surface.

The project, allotted to York Builders Pvt. Ltd., Zirakpur, will be completed within six months.

The second project will cover the 2.05km-long Chappar Chiri Kalan to Chappar Chiri Khurd Road. Earlier 18 feet wide, the road has now been widened to 22 feet. Last repaired in March 2018, it is being reconstructed at a cost of Rs 3.7 crore.

The entire road will be built using 80mm paver blocks, with the work to be completed in four months. The construction has been awarded to Shri Ganesh Construction, Moga.

MLA Kulwant Singh said, “The start of work on these two roads is the beginning of a larger plan under which 14 major roads in the constituency will be strengthened in a phased manner.”

Addressing a gathering local villagers, including women, MLA Kulwant Singh assured them that the promise of providing Rs 1,100 per month to women as a token of respect will soon be rolled out by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. “It will be the final poll promise to be fulfilled by the state government, proving that every commitment made before coming to power is being honoured,” he added.
