Members of Shivalik Enclave Welfare Association, Manimajra, today met Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla over security issues in the area. Opposing the Municipal Corporation’s move to remove gates installed for security purposes, they said residents were aggrieved by thefts and anti-social activities.
In view of various incidents of theft, including snatching, the police have been intimated and they have strongly recommended the installation of security gates, CCTV cameras and fencing, the association added.
Acting on the information and communication from the police authorities, the Municipal Corporation Chief Engineer had referred the matter to the Chief Architect, Department of Urban Planning.
The drive for the removal of the security gates at Shivalik Enclave was to be carried out without any prior intimation, notice and by completely ignoring the facts and circumstances, they claimed.
The delegation comprising Rajinder Kumar Khanduja, association chairman; RD Sharma, president; RM Bhalla, vice-president; Varinder Gupta, general secretary, along with Sanjeev Chadha president and Sharanjit Singh adviser of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal submitted a representation to the mayor.
Chandigarh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Jatinder Pal Malhotra was also present on the occasion.
The delegation requested that the order of removal of the security gates, which have been installed since long, shall be put in abeyance on the basis of recommendation of the police authorities concerned, as the security of the residents is paramount.
They said incidents of thefts and entry of anti-social elements, including drug addicts, had diminished since the installation of the security gates.
Mayor Harpree Kaur Babla assured the delegation that the gates will not be removed.
