Chandigarh, August 2
Residents today protested against digging up of a Sector 21-A public park for allegedly setting up of a mobile phone tower following which the work was stopped.
Residents said huge work force was deployed today to break the pathway in the park. As they started digging up the area, people gathered there.
“People protested against the illogical move. The authorities are trying to install this mobile phone tower right in the middle of a residential area. They have also damaged the park, which is considered heritage,” said Baljinder Singh Bittu, chairman, FOSWAC.
Activist Harmanjit Singh Sidhu added, “On the one hand, we are striving to maintain the heritage of the City Beautiful, while on the other, they are spoiling it. We will not let this happen.” — TNS
