Ribhav topples third seed at Chandigarh Tennis tourney

Local challenger Ribhav Saroha defeated third seed Rajasthan’s Shreyas Dogial 7-5 6-2 to march into the boys’ U-18 quarterfinals at the ongoing CLTA-AITA National Series Tennis Tournament, being played at the Sector 10 CLTA Complex.

In another big upset, Madhya Pradesh's Vivaan Bidasaria toppled sixth seed Maharatsra’s Neev Ravi Kothari in a three-setter. Bidasaria lost the opening set 3-6, but bounced back strongly by logging a 6-2 6-3 wins in the next two to book his spot in the final-eight.

Top seed Maharashtra’s Swaraaj Shailendra Dhamdhere moved ahead safely, beating Amrit Dhankar of Uttarakhand 7-5 6-4, while fourth seed Haryana’s Dhruv Ghanghas defeated Gujarat’s Heet Kandoriya 6-2 7-5. Punjab’s Armaan Walia also moved into the next round by defeating Dev S Nandasana 6-2 6-3 and Anuj Tashildar ousted Mahijith Kaura 6-0 6-4.

Megh Maulik Patel defeated Aritra Kumar Sasmal 6-3 6-0 and Nithin Barath KS defeated Himanish Brinda 6-3 6-4.

In the girls’ U-18 event, Ranjhana Sangram continued her winning streak and defeated Avni Sahraya 6-0 6-2. Delhi’s Manshi Singh ousted Haryana’s Manvi Gupta 6-4 6-0 and Shagun Kumari of Uttar Pradesh recorded a stunning 0-6 6-3 7-5 comeback against Alexa Singh. Pal Vipulkumar Upadhyay defeated Miraya Agrawal 6-0 6-4 and Iha Joshi stunned Haryana’s Dhatri Dave 3-6 6-2 6-0. Nainika Naren Bendram defeated Tamanna Walia 6-2 6-0, Sherry Sharma ousted Shrawasti Kundilya 6-3 6-2 and Riya Sachdeva outplayed Eshanya Khattar 6-3 6-1.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ U-18 doubles quarterfinal, the team of Swaraj Dhamdhere and Neev Kothari defeated Kanishk Yadav and Mohit Sharma 6-1 6-1. Shreyas Dogial and Dhruv Ghanghas also recorded an identical 6-1 6-1 win over Ribhav Saroha and Sumukh Marya. In the girls’ U-18 doubles event, Nainika Reddy Bendram and Riya Sachdeva defeated Manvi Rathi and Miraya Agarwal 6-2 6-3. Afreen Rahil and Ranjana Sangram also marched into the next round by defeating Mansi Singh and Shagun Kumar 6-2 7-5.
