Local shuttler Rijul Saini claimed three titles on the concluding day of the Yonex Sunrise Chandigarh State Senior & Junior Badminton Championships that concluded at the Centre of Excellence for Badminton in the Sector 38 Sports Complex.

Rijul won the girls’ U-19 final by defeating second seed Jasmeet Kaur 21-11 21-16. Playing her second final of the day, Rijul faced a tough resistance from Mehnoor Kaur before logging a 21-17 19-21 21-14 win to win women’s final. In the mixed doubles final, Samarveer Sharma and Rijul paired together to defeat Kevin Wong and Mehnoor Kaur 21-17 21-17.

Meanwhile, top seed Arnaaz Kaur won the girls’ U-11 title after a neck-and-neck fight with second seed Aadya Singh Meena. Arnaaz lost the first game 29-30, only to recover in the next two by logging a 23-21 21-16 win. Akul Malik won the boys’ U-19 final by recording a comeback 19-21 23-21 21-14 win over top seed Krishna Sharma. The team of Randeep Singh and Samarveer Sharma won the men’s doubles final by overcoming a tough challenge from Pankaj Nathani and Satinder Malik 21-15 16-21 21-18, while Hiyan Yadav won the boy’s U-11 final by defeating Kanwarjeet Singh 21-17 21-10. — TNS
