Road rage led to carjacking, says probe; college student arrested

It was a road-rage incident that turned into car-jacking on the Sector 15/16 road on Wednesday night, reveals the police investigation.

One of the suspects, Kartik, a SD college student, has been arrested. The police have recovered the SUV used in the crime, which belongs to a Haryana police constable, and the one (Maruti Jimny), which was forcibly taken away by the suspects.

Police sources said the Constable’s son, who studies in Chandigarh, had parked his SUV at a friend’s place in Sector 21. The four suspects took the SUV for a joy ride on Wednesday night.

They were allegedly drunk. They entered into a scuffle with the complainant, Kuldeep Singh, on the Sector 15/16 road, following which they robbed him of his car fled the spot.

The suspects parked the Constable’s SUV back in Sector 21 and fled with the stolen car to Haryana. It was later recovered from Jagadhari. The other three suspects have also been identified by the police. They are absconding.

Kuldeep, a Mansa resident, who works as a driver with a dealer in Rewari, was on his way to Manali to deliver the new Maruti Jimny, when he was stopped by the suspects. They first asked him to roll down the window and then forced him to get off the vehicle. They also assaulted Kuldeep before taking away his vehicle.

The complainant had sought help from a passerby but the suspects managed to escape.
