Top seeds Rohan Gurbani and Tasnim Mir reached the boys’ and girls’ U-19 singles finals, respectively, on the fifth and penultimate day of the Yonex-Sunrise All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament at the Sector 38 Sports Complex here today.

Gurbani rallied from a game down to beat 16th seed Pranay Katta of Rajasthan 19-21 21-10 21-10 in the semifinals.

In the final, he will face Haryana’s Ravi. The second seed registered a 21-16 21-19 win over seventh seed Rithvik Sanjeevi in the semis.

Earlier, in the quarterfinals, Gurbani prevailed 17-21 21-14 21-14 over eighth seed Abhinn Vasisth, while Katta overcame 13th seed Gautam Walia 18-21 21-16 21-15. Ravi registered 19-21 21-13 21-9 win over Saneeth DS and Sanjeevi downed Pranav Rao Gandham 16-21 21-16 21-19.

Tasnim, meanwhile, defeated fourth seed Deepshikha Singh 21-19 17-21 21-11 in the only girls’ U-19 singles semifinal match played today.

In the quarterfinals, Tasnim ousted Sakshi Phogat 21-19 21-13, while Deepshikha packed off Pranavi N 21-18 21-5. Aditi outplayed Likhita Srivastava 21-19 22-20 and Mansi Singh drubbed Akshaya Arumugam 21-17 21-6.

Edwin-Shruti motor on

The top seeded pair of Edwin Joy and Shruti Mishra defeated fifth seeds Gireesh Nayudu B and Mehreen Riza 22-20 21-16 to set up the title clash with AV Suresh and S Gurazada. The fourth seeded duo defeated Hariharan Amsakarunan and Praveena S 22-20 21-18 in the semis.

Shruti-Shailja enter semis

The sixth seed duo of Shruti Mishra and Shailja Shukla stunned the top seeded pair of Treesa Jolly and Likhita Srivastava 14-21 21-11 22-20 in the girls’ U-19 doubles quarterfinals.

Pranavi N and Praveena S defeated Durva Gupta and Khushi Thakkar 21-16 11-21 21-17, whereas third seeds Riya Sachan and Deepshikha Singh registered a 16-21 21-15 21-8 win over J Ananthakumar and M Riza. Second seeds Aditi Bhatt and Tanya Hemanth rallied to beat Abhilasha A and Srivedya Gurazada 18-21 26-24 21-15 in the quarterfinals.

In the boys’ U-19 doubles quarterfinals, A Doddavarapu and E Joy ousted Saket CS and Suhas V 21-18 21-13, while GB and S Udayakumar ousted Nitin Kumar and Harsh Rana 21-15 21-13.

RPS and S Pullela stunned second seeded pair of VV and AV Suresh 19-21 21-15 21-13 in the quarterfinals, while eighth seeds Ayush Agarwal and Tushar Gagneja upset third seed Saneeth DS and Pruthvi Roy K 21-18 21-14. — TNS
