Local MLA Dinesh Chadha hosted a lunch at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) for meritorious students belonging to the area, who excelled in Class X and XII exams, here today. School principals and parents of students, along with Deputy Commissioner Dr Preeti Yadav, were also present on the occasion.

Chadha said this programme was organised to motivate children, who got place in merit list. Holding lunch at the IIT, Ropar, would help in apprising students about various modern engineering courses available here. He said children belonging to ordinary families just need proper and positive guidance. Their self-confidence needs to be boosted so that they can reach higher levels, he added.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
