The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today staged protest demonstrations in various parts of the district against tardy procurement of paddy and alleged shortage of DAP fertiliser.

In Kharar, SAD leader and realtor Ranjit Singh Gill staged a demonstration outside the SDM office and handed a demand letter to the administration officials.

In Mohali, Parvinder Singh Sohana criticised the failure of the government in conducting smooth procurement and fertiliser shortage.

“This time farmers had to sit in mandis on Diwali night to guard their produce. This has happened for the first time in Punjab,” Sohana added.

In Dera Bassi, SAD treasurer NK Sharma and workers staged a demonstration outside the SDM office and demanded immediate relief to the farmers.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
