Chandigarh’s Samarveer registered a 12-15 15-9 15-13 win over Sahaj Tyagi of Delhi in the second round of the boys’ singles qualifiers on the inaugural day of the All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament here today.

Earlier in the day, Samarveer humbled Haryana’s Tanishq Bhatia 15-9 15-8 in the opening round.

City lad Sarthak Madan lost 18-20 13-15 to Sabreeshwaran H of Tamil Nadu in second round.

Lakshya Chopra prevailed 15-11 10-15 15-13 over Sumit Sahu in the first round but went down 9-15 9-15 to Varshith Reddy of Telangana in the second round.

Gurbaksh Saini drubbed Naman Jeet Yadav of Uttar Pradesh 15-9 15-8 before edging out Nayan Tak of Maharashtra 15-8 15-10 in the second round.

Yatharth Madaan rallied from a game down to beat Haryana’s Aman 10-15 15-11 15-12 in the second round. Earlier, he thrashed Abhinav Khare of Madhya Pradesh 15-6 15-10.

Vaibhav Mehra moved into the second round after he got a walkover against Haryana’s Aakash Kannan. Hasil Tewari lost 6-15 7-15 to Tarun Sehrawat of Dehi in the opening round.

In the girls’ singles contest, Vrinda Rana of Chandigarh drubbed Tridha Jindal of Tamil Nadu 15-4 15-5 in the first qualification round.

Nimar Kaur Virk went down to Mekhla Ambekar of Maharashtra. Nimar lost 15-12 5-15 10-15. Shagunpreet Kaur registered a 15-3 15-6 win over Trisha Mahajan of Punjab.

Harshita Dhiman of Haryana got the better of Alisha Mahmood Khan of Maharashtra in the opening round. The Haryana shuttler won 15-11 15-13.
