The Municipal Corporation (MC) feted safaimitras as it observed ‘Swachh Bharat Diwas’ and Gandhi Jayanti at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan in Sector 38 here, recognising their dedication and efforts in keeping the city clean.

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria was the chief guest at the event. He gave away appreciation certificates to swachhata champions, women self-help groups and other stakeholders for their active participation and contributions to the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign.

Mayor Kuldeep Kumar, UT Adviser Rajeev Verma, Local Bodies Secretary Mandip Singh Brar, MC Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh, Senior Deputy Mayor Kuljeet Sandhu, Deputy Mayor Rajinder Sharma, area councillor Yogesh Dhingra and other councillors along with MC officials were present.

The Governor said cleanliness was next to godliness, a value espoused by Mahatma Gandhi, and that it was the collective responsibility of everyone to carry forward his legacy of sanitation. He urged everyone to work together to elevate Chandigarh’s ranking in the Swachh Survekshan.

The Mayor expressed his gratitude towards safaimitras, commending their round-the-clock efforts to keep the city clean. He also acknowledged the contributions of all stakeholders in the successful completion of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign.
