Sector 26 academy beat CISF 6-3 in hockey

The men’s hockey team of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Hockey Academy (SGGSH), Sector 26, posted a 6-3 win over the CISF with Parambir converting three penalty corners during the Senior State Hockey Championships at the Sector 42 Sports Complex.

The Sector 26 team outfit was right on target as Surinder sounded the wooden plank via penalty corner in the third minute, but CISF lads replied strongly by posting two goals. Sandeep found the equaliser in the eighth minute, while Yograj made it 1-2 in the 23rd minute. After a while, Gurjeet took advantage of the second awarded penalty corner and made it 2-2 in the 27th minute. The very next minute, Yograj converted one for the CISF to gain the 2-3 lead.

Thereafter, the Sector 26 coach changed tactics and the team started playing an attacking game. The change helped SGGS lads gain momentum and post a stunning comeback in the match by posting four goals in the next 30 minutes. Parambir (32nd, 43rd, 60th) converted penalty corners, while Angadbir (33rd) added one to help the side stun the CISF.

In the second match, AG Punjab defeated 3BRD Air Force 2-1. After a goalless 30 minutes of play, Chandeep opened the team’s account in the 31st minute, while Jagath made it 1-1 in the 40th minute. The next minute saw Gurpartap posting a goal. AG Haryana posted a 3-1 win over Rock Rovers Hockey Club.

In the women’s category, Rock Rovers Hockey Club defeated Panjab University Hockey Club 4-0. Raveena (15th, 29th, 31st) scored a hat-trick, while Anjali (33rd) added one to the tally. SGGSH Club defeated Chandigarh Hockey Academy 2-0 with Dhapa (37th, 58th) scoring both goals.
