Sector-37 school clinch U-14 inter-school football trophy

Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, represented by the lads of Chandigarh Football Academy (CFA), won the inter-school football tournament for boys’ U-14 category at the Sector 42 Sports Complex.

The Sector 37 school posted a 5-1 win over Sri Chaitanya Techno School, Sector 44, to win the title.

The Sector 37 team was quick to draw the first blood in the fifth minute, as their strikers won a spot-kick to get a good start. Malagam sent the ball over the goal line, but the goal was declined by the referee as the Sector 44 goalie was not settled. However, in the second chance, Malagam calmly scored the goal to make it 1-0. The Sector 44 team earned their first corner of the game and Alex scored in the 24th minute of the game.

As the match progressed, the Sector 37 displayed their calmness and superiority by holding the ball in half-line. In the 27th minute, Pratham finally penetrated into the Sector 44 area and smartly defeated the Sector 44 custodian to make the first half in the team’s favour with a 2-1 scoreline.

After the lemon break, the Sector 37 team scored three more goals before the final whistle of the match. Krishna posted the third goal with a solo effort in the 37th minute, while Yengkhom made it 4-1 in the 40th minute. Just before the final whistle, Pratham netted his second to make it 5-1 for the side.

St Anne’s School, Sector 32, logged a 4-1 win over Gurukul Global, Manimajra, to claim the third position. Ayansyal (4th) scored the first goal for the Sector 32 team, while Samagra found the equaliser in the 13th minute. Thereafter, Kapish (14th), Ayansyal (21st) and Aden (52nd) scored goals for the winning side.

Meanwhile, DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, logged a six-wicket win over Delhi Public School, Sector 40, in the boys’ U-14 inter-school cricket tournament.

Batting first, the Sector 40 team posted 52 runs with the help of Saral (18) and Aarav (6). Lakshay claimed three wickets for the bowling side, while Yashmeet picked one. In reply, the Sector 8 team achieved the target with Priyanshu (18) and Deepanshu (12) scoring the major share. Saral claimed two and Aarav took one wicket for the bowling side.

In the second match, St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, posted a 54-run win over St John’s School, Sector 26. The Sector 44 side posted 125 as Rishab (54) and Jagman (33) scored a major share for the side. Harman and Ranveer claimed two wickets each for the bowling side. In reply, the Sector 26 team were bundled out at 72. Aarish (19) and Adhiraj (11) were the top two performers in the chase. Siraj and Rishab claimed two wickets each for the bowling side.
