Chandigarh, May 25

On the first day of opening of the Sector 38 motor market, a huge rush was witnessed there. Encroachments as well as haphazard parking were witnessed in the whole area. The market saw a heavy rush of vehicles as many people turned up to get their vehicles repaired or serviced. Shopkeepers encroached upon the road or verandah outside their shops, leading to a traffic jam in the market. Some people had a tough time entering the market and coming out.

According to a shopkeeper, some mechanics, who sit in front of shops, pay rent to the owners of the shops and not the government, whose land they use. They encroach upon the area, causing inconvenience to visitors.
