Chandigarh, July 16

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today termed the use of 500 odd diesel vehicles in the city to lift garbage as a “waste of money and resources”.

AAP convener Prem Garg said on the one hand, diesel vehicles were being phased out to reduce pollution. On the other, the Municipal Corporation has deputed hundreds of these to lift garbage, adding to the pollution in the city.

“Having two separate bins on one vehicle is not a great idea. Non-kitchen waste vehicles should be separate from kitchen waste vehicles as these are supposed to be unloaded at separate locations,” he said.

Garg also said instead of dry and wet garbage, it should be termed as kitchen and non-kitchen waste.

“The kitchen waste collected from a Sector should be composted within the same area by installing compost bins or mini compost plants in every Sector,” he said.

“Why Dadu Majra be made a dustbin of the city and its residents be made to suffer for negligence of city residents?” Garg asked.
