Seminar raises awareness on ageing with dignity
The Centre for Social Work, Panjab University (PU), in collaboration with HelpAge India, Chandigarh branch, organised a seminar on “Ageing with dignity to raise awareness about respect, care and social inclusion for the elderly”.
The seminar was coordinated by Dr Gaurav Gaur, Chairperson, Centre for Social Work. Eminent speakers shared insights on ageing and challenges faced by senior citizens. The speakers, included HP Singh, retired Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools, Col (retd) Bhupinder Singh Chandel, Kaushal Chandel, Arti Tikoo, Deputy Director, HelpAge India, and Kamal Sharma, Deputy Director, Programmes. They stressed on the importance of dignity, well-being and social security for the elderly, while highlighting the role of families and communities in creating a supportive environment.
Students of the Centre for Social Work actively participated in the event, while engaging the elderly with recreational activities such as singing, antakshari and musical games. They also performed the traditional Himachali Naati dance, adding cultural vibrancy to the event.
The seminar concluded with the distribution of participation certificates, recognising contributions of all participants and resource persons.
