September GST mop-up in Chandigarh rises 17%

After witnessing a decline for three consecutive months, the UT Administration registered an increase of 17 per cent in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in September in comparison to the gross levy collected during the corresponding period last year.

According to data released by the Ministry of Finance, the GST collection for September stood at Rs 231 crore, which is Rs 34 crore more than Rs 197 crore mopped up in the same month last year.

The GST collection in the city saw a drop of 2% in June this year and the tax collection dropped to 5 per cent in July and witnessed a further decline of 12 per cent in August.

The GST collection for August this year stood at Rs 214 crore, which was Rs 30 crore less than Rs 244 crore mopped up in the same month last year.

Similarly, the tax collection in July stood at Rs 221 crore, which was Rs 12 crore less than Rs 233 crore collected in the same months last year. The collection for June this year stood at Rs 220 crore, which was Rs 4 crore less than Rs 224 crore mopped up in the same month last year.

At Rs 363 crore, the UT had registered a record increase of 53% in the gross GST collection in May. The collection was Rs 237 crore, which was Rs 126 crore more than collected during the same month in 2024.
