Dr Rachna Srivastava, sector expert – health, nutrition and well-being, Chandigarh Institute of Transformation, highlighted that the UPFs were increasingly becoming the “new tobacco for youth,” driven by aggressive marketing, easy availability, and low cost.

Dr Bhavneet Bharti, Director-Principal, AIMS Mohali, emphasised that the Lancet Series consolidates global evidence linking UPFs to obesity, metabolic risks, poor diet quality and multiple non-communicable diseases.
