The CCTV footage showed five persons committing the theft. Miscreants broke the shutters of two shops and stole goods worth thousands of rupees.

The shop owners came to know of the theft in the morning when they reached their shops. Shop owners, Happy and Ramesh, said they had closed their shop at 5 pm on Monday due to the lockdown.

“When I came to open the shops today, I saw the locks were broken. Bags, including readymade clothes, and shoes worth Rs40,000 were stolen from the shops,” said one of the shopkeepers.

Shopkeepers complained that miscreants are taking advantage of the curfew while police was nowhere to be found.

“Thefts have taken place in several shops in the market about which the police have no clue. Miscreants tried to break open shutters of other shops but could not do so,” they said. — TNS
