A man died by suicide after the money he had paid to an immigration firm to send his daughter to Australia got stuck. The deceased has been identified as Shashikant Sharma, a resident of Panjokhra Sahib village. The police have booked six people, including the MD and the employees of the immigration firm.

In her complaint to the police, the daughter of the deceased, Shivani, stated she wanted to go to Australia, for which she had submitted her documents with a Chandigarh-based immigration firm in February; however, she was provided with a fake offer letter. She said that as she could not go to Australia, a complaint was filed at the Panjokhra police station, following which a settlement took place and the immigration firm agreed to pay Rs 5.66 lakh.

She said, “While Rs 66,000 was deposited into the bank account in May, another instalment of Rs 2.50 lakh was deposited in June, and the Rs 2.50 lakh instalment was pending. The money was to be transferred on July 1; however, the money was not being deposited,, and the employees and the MD of the firm used to behave rudely with my father. They were making various excuses to avoid depositing the payment due to which my father used to remain sad and worried.”
