Six food samples taken during Diwali found adulterated

As many as six samples out of 32 taken by the Food and Drugs Administration in October around Diwali festival were found adulterated in the quality test.

The samples were sent to food laboratory in Karnal for testing. As per the information, results of remaining 26 samples were found to be genuine.

Out of six, two samples of ‘khoya’ and ‘khoya burfi’ were found substandard and prohibited for sales, one sample of mixed fruit juice was found substandard and had extraneous matter, while one sample each of mustatd oil, whey protein and fruit juice were found misbranded.

The department has sent legal notices to the shop owners.

The designated food safety officer (FSO), Ambala Subhash Chander, said, “The results of all samples taken during festive season have arrived. Six samples were found adulterated. Notices were served to shop owners, besides filing cases in the court of the Additional Deputy Commissioner. Over two quintal sweets were destroyed during inspections as these were found unfit for human consumption.”

Meanwhile, designated FSOs Subhash Chander and Gaurav Sharma carried out a drive to check food adulteration on Friday. They took nine samples of food items from Ambala City.

As per the information samples of ‘desi ghee’, mother dairy milk, biscuits, ‘gulab jamun’, mustard oil, marvel tea, ‘paneer’, salt, and banana fruit were taken from different shops.

“Nine samples have been taken from dairies, confectionary, sweets and fruit shops. The samples will be sent to food laboratory in Karnal for analysis,” said Subhash Chander.
