Six peddlers held, 13 kg opium seized in Zirakpur
The police have arrested six alleged drug peddlers and seized 13 kg opium from his possession in Zirakpur. The team also impounded the car being used to peddle the drugs.
The accused has been identified as Jashanpreet Singh of Lalchia village in Guru Har Sahai of Ferozepur district.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Pareek said an operation was carried out by Inspector Jaskanwal Singh Sekhon, station house officer (SHO) at the Zirakpur Police Station, along with Sub-Inspector Surjit Singh from Crime Investigation Agency Staff.
A case under sections 18-61-85 NDPS Act and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at the Zirakpur police station and the team apprehended the accused along with a vehicle.
As per preliminary investigation, the opium originated from Jharkhand, cops said.
“The accused has a history of criminal involvement and was previously booked in an attempt to murder case at Faridkot and two NDPS Act cases at Fazilka. The accused has been taken into police remand, and an in-depth interrogation is underway to uncover further links in the drug supply chain,” the SSP said.
Raids were conducted at drug peddlers’ hideouts, leading to the arrest of five more alleged drug peddlers.
