After a prolonged delay, the UT Administration has set a target to complete the pilot project of installation of smart electricity meters in the city by early next year.

The project was allotted to government-owned Regional Electricity Corporation (REC) in 2016. So far, nearly 50 per cent of the work could be completed.

Irked over the slow pace of work, UT Adviser Dharam Pal today took up the issue in a review meeting on the status of smart metering with the Secretary, Ministry of Power.

“We have invited the CMD of the REC to come and sort out the issues leading to delay in the completion of the project,” said UT Adviser Dharam Pal. He said they wanted to complete the project by January or February next year.

Nearly 30,000 smart meters are to be installed in Sectors 29, 31, 47 and 48, and Faidan, Ram Darbar, Hallo Majra, Raipur Kalan, Makhanmajra, and Daria villages and the Industrial Area.
