Haryana Speaker asks youth to follow path shown by Swami Vivekananda
Panchkula, January 12
Hundreds of students participated in a walkathon organised by the Sports Promotion Society, along with the district administration and the local Municipal Corporation, on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda here today.
The event saw school students walking on the road in biting cold. Officials said it was aimed at encouraging people to contribute towards making Panchkula an ideal city.
Haryana Speaker Gian Chand Gupta flagged off the walkathon from Sector 5. It passed by Cactus Garden, city bus stand, Tawa Chowk, the Sector 11-14, Sector 10-15 and Sector 9-16 roundabouts before culminating at Sector 5.
Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal, Deputy Commissioner Sushil Sarwan, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sumer Pratap Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Varsha Khangwal, City Magistrate Rajesh Poonia, MC Joint Director Richa Rathi and Deputy Municipal Commissioner Apoorva Chaudhary also attended the event.
The Haryana Speaker said Swami Vivekananda was a great inspiration to the youth. “His message ‘Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is achieved’ is still relevant,” he said.
He called upon the youth to follow the path shown by the great philosopher and contribute towards maintaining the unity and integrity of the country. The Speaker also called upon the youth to stay away from drugs.
