The Old Yadavindrian Association (OYA) secured a victory against Staggners of Asia in a cricket match at IS Bindra Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. Chasing a target of 199, the OYA displayed exceptional batting performance and won by eight wickets. The Staggners of Asia Cricket Club, a historic London-based wandering cricket club, is set to play a series of matches in Chandigarh. The club, known for its unique all-day cricket format, has a rich legacy dating back to the early 1920s when Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala hosted friendly matches in Chail, Himachal Pradesh. As part of their tour in Chandigarh, the Staggners of Asia will be playing a series of matches. Their schedule includes two matches against PCA Mohali, followed by a face-off with the Mahajan Cricket Club. They will also compete against the Union Territory Cricket Association.

Chess Festival from tomorrow

The Chandigarh Chess Academy will organise the 13th Chandigarh Chess Academy Open & Children Prize Money Chess Festival 2025 at Chandigarh Baptist School, Sector 45, from March 29 to 30. The tournament will feature open category, Under-14 (Boys & Girls) and Under-10 (Boys & Girls). A total of 39 cash prizes will be awarded at the concluding ceremony.

Indus Valley Cricket Academy, Dera Bassi, defeated Cricket Academy of Narwal, Karnal, by six wickets to win the 5th Panna Lal Memorial U-19 Cricket Tournament for the NSS Trophy. Batting first, the Karnal team scored 131 all out in 33.2 overs. Supreet Yadav (27), Armaan (23), Arjun Yadav (23) and Shekhar Rana (21) were the main scorers for the side. Mihir Thakur claimed five wickets, while Subdeep Singh accounted two for the bowling side. Saumil Verma, Aditya Ladoo and Rahul Sood claimed one wicket each. In reply, the Dera Bassi team achieved the target 135 in 23.5 overs. Balraj Singh (best batsman), Mihir Thakur (best bowler), Yuvraj (best all rounder), Ashu Kumar (best fielder) and Aksh Rana (best wicketkeeper) were awarded.

Athletics meet organised

The annual athletics meet for sub-staff members was organised by the sports department of St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44. In the men matka race, Inder Kumar, Surinder and Harinder Rana claimed the top three positions, respectively, while Shobha Gosain won the women’s targeting cones event, followed by Sonia at second and Sarojani Devi at third position. In the mixed cup and ball race, the pair of Rani and Sonu won first position, followed by the pair of Geeta Bisht and Kushlanand Chamoli at second and Priyanka Rana and Narinder Mani at third.

Vikram Juniors emerge winners

Devensh claimed 5/17 to help Vikram Juniors beat Chauhan Cricket Academy by 32 runs in the WCHL Cricket League. Batting first, Vikram Juniors posted 165/7 in 25 overs with the help of Sangram (54), Tatva (43) and Arav Dabral (10). Yash and Mehtab claimed two wickets each for the bowling side. In reply, Chauhan Academy were bundled out at 133 as Mehtab (34), Simarpreet Singh (21) and Meen (16) contributed for the team. Devensh claimed a fifer, while Tatva (2/26) and Harnur Paul (1/14) were the other wicket takers for the side. In the second match, Tau Devi Lal Stadium beat Atwal Sports by 154 runs.
