St Xavier’s girls, DAV boys win U-16 handball titles

Anisha, Gurleen and Chahal contributed one point each for the title winners. Samardeep gathered two points for the Sector 38 team. DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, logged a 16-5 win over St Xavier’s High School, Sector 20, Panchkula, to finish third in the tournament. Ritika scored nine points for the winning side, while Divyanshi netted four and Simmi posted two. Komal also added one to the winning tally. Enaya scored three goals and Alisha netted two for the Panchkula team.
In the boys’ U-16 final, the Sector 8 school humbled the hosts 36-15 as Karan hogged the limelight by scoring 16 goals. Kaamil added six, Gaurav posted five and Yash netted four. Dev and Ritesh scored two each, while Aayan one as the DAV School team dominated the final.
For the hosts, Akshat remained the main scorer with seven points, followed by Kuber with five and Sparsh two. Namann gathered a single point for the side.
Guru Nanak Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Sector 30, defeated St Xavier’s Panchkula 28-9. Abhik led from the front and posited 11 points, while Harveer added seven to the tally. Madhav (4 points), Kunal (3 points), Rajveer (2 points) and Vedic (1 point) were the other scorers for the side. Divyansh scored a maximum of five points for the Panchkula team, while Tarun added two to the tally. Inshant and Rajveer scored one each.
Karan Singh and Ritika Thakur were adjudged the best scorers of the tournament, while Akhilesh and Shubhleen Kaur were declared the best goalkeepers. Akshat Thakur and Prabhnoor were the players of the tournament. A special appreciation award was given to Tanisha of Government Model High School, Sector 38.
Dr Gurmeet Singh, chairman, Department of Physical Education, Panjab University, and Dr Ivoirine Castellas, Principal, awarded the winners.
