Stamp vendor shoots himself dead at office in Sohana

A 62-year-old stamp vendor reportedly shot himself in the head in his office at Sohana here around 10:30 am today. The vendor, Navchetan Singh Rana, a resident of Phase 1, here was reportedly depressed for the past sometime.

The police did not confirm the reason behind his extreme step, but said a suicide note had been recovered from the office.

The doctors declared him dead on the spot, after which the police sent the body to the Phase 6 Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. A forensic team inspected the spot and collected evidence.

The members of the deceased’s family said Navchetan had left for his office after breakfast around 9 am. Around 10:30 am, he asked his female office assistant to go out for a while as he wanted to offer his prayers. As soon as she left the office, a gunshot was heard. Neighbours rushed to the office and found him lying dead in a pool of blood. The police found the revolver from the spot. The family members claimed it was a licensed weapon.
