Eyewitnesses said the assailants were not university students. Student union members said despite the main gate being closed for Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma’s show, how the outsiders managed to enter the campus.

The Sector 11 police have registered a murder case against unidentified persons and started an investigation. “A scuffle took place between the youths during which two youths sustained injuries. One was hit on the head and back and the other stabbed in the thigh. Teams have been constituted to trace the absconding youths. They will be nabbed soon. The kin of the deceased have been informed,” said inspector Dilbagh Singh.

Deceased’s father Praveen Thakur, who hails from Talwara, works in a factory at Nalagarh (HP). The post-mortem was conducted on Saturday and the body handed over to the family.
