To maintain the ecological balance and enhance the scenic beauty of Sukhna Lake, the UT Engineering Department has commenced the process of de-weeding the lake mechanically, which will continue till December end.

The lake, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Chandigarh, has been facing an increase in aquatic weed growth, which impacts water quality and threatens ecosystem. The weeds not only affect the lake’s biodiversity but also obstructs recreational activities such as boating and water sports.

The Chandigarh Administration has sought the cooperation of residents and visitors in maintaining the cleanliness of the area and urged them to refrain from littering and indulging in activities that could further degrade the lake’s environment.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
